Mike
BIG HOOKS.
SHARP INSTINCTS.
Crunching and chiming guitars, harmonies that lift off, and songs that stay with you. Independent guitar-driven pop from the Washington, D.C. area.
The story
Mike Shupp writes American guitar pop built on ringing and crunching guitars, soaring harmonies and direct, emotionally vivid songs. Based in the Washington, D.C. area, the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist balances power-pop immediacy with the storytelling of classic heartland rock.
Before his solo work, Shupp was guitarist for D.C.-area band Big Bang Theory (later Bang Theory), signed to Paradox/MCA and associated with an EMI Publishing deal. His solo catalog on Private Mind Records spans October Sun, The Key, and This Time.
He recorded This Time at his City Park Sound studio, playing nearly every instrument; Chris Zogby contributed drums. The album was mixed by Don McCollister. A Spotify-exclusive remaster arrived in 2025, and the album was also made available on vinyl.
As a solo artist, he has opened shows for Lisa Loeb and Tommy Keene at Washington, D.C.'s 9:30 Club.
